Crow Fisher is a thrash punk band based out of Bend, Oregon. They have a very aggressive dark sound. Their name hails from a character in the movie Mad Max. After discussing this connection, it was decided that a more literal approach should be taken. The service mark is a literal interpretation of the band’s name. I wanted to use an illustration style that might lend to street graffiti if desired. For the logotype I was inspired by the covers of Stephen King books and the typeface Benguiat. The members of Crow Fisher are fans of horror and dystopian fantasy so I felt that this was an appropriate approach. The colors red and black speak to that same aesthetic.

Crow Fisher has had the pleasure of playing with some big names in Punk. They asked me to do some posters that stood out, both visually and in message. I essentially had carte blanche on subject. Punk has a great history of offensive or divisive imagery. I wanted to lean into that.
The Chupra Cobra logo reminded me of a belt buckle and I had been watching a CBGB documentary while I sketching out ideas. It struck me how dirty the bathroom was. I thought the idea of the headliner peeing on the opening bands was humorous. I couldn’t show a full phallus so I approached the whole thing as a comic book strip, giving the poster action. I’ve also always been a fan of limited color schemes, so black and yellow told the story adequately.
TSOL is a decidedly political band and has been for three decades. I felt it was necessary to honor that with the imagery of the poster. Given the current political climates of 2019, why not zombify Lady Liberty. I wanted this to look like it could be printed in a screen printing press using a fountain effect. Red and Blue for America’s death. They liked it.
